How does Telephone Counselling work?
If you choose telephone counselling, I will call you on your mobile number at our appointment time.
I will ask you if you are in a quiet , private place where you won't be disturbed. I will check that you are comfortable before we begin.
I will listen to you in my quiet, private counselling room, using headphones to ensure complete privacy for our session.
I will listen to your situation and gently explore with you, what is happening for you in your life.
How does Zoom counselling work?
At the time of booking our appointment, I will book the initial appointment on Zoom. You will receive an e-mail from me, this will contain a link, a password and a number which you will need to enter to join the Zoom call, once you click onto the link.
If you choose Zoom counselling for your initial consultation, I will talk you through the Zoom set up if needed, so that you are comfortable with using Zoom before we begin our consultation. This set up tutorial is included in the initial consultation.
You can choose to use the Zoom call to chat in real time too during the consultation, I will show you how this works if needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q.How long will I need counselling for?
A.It is totally your choice, you can choose to receive counselling for a set amount of sessions or, if you like, you can come for as long as you feel you need to.
Q.What will I have to do ?
A.Firstly, I will ask you what has been happening in your life that has been difficult for you and I will ask you how I can help you. It is always your choice whether you feel ready to share your thoughts and feelings, if not, that's OK too.
As your counsellor, I will give you all the space you need, there is no rush. When you feel ready to share with me, I will listen to your story and I will gain an understanding of your situation.
Then, when you feel ready, we can explore your story together and you choose how you would like me to help you with your story.
Q.Are you qualified? Can I see your certificates?
A.I am qualified to Level 4 AQA diploma standard.
I am a registered member of BACP, to become a registered member I was required to undertake a competency test.
My certificates are displayed in my counselling room.
Q. Why can't I just talk to a friend of family member? What's the difference between talking and counselling?
From experience, I have found that talking to family and friends can really help when you have a problem that you need to talk through and you need some good advice. That's great !
With counselling, the whole of your counselling time with me is for you to talk about you. Nothing else, just about you, your feelings, and how you are. No pressure to talk , no worrying about being judged, in a completely confidential and safe place.
This allows you the space to work things through in your own time and in your own way, with someone who has been trained to help you work out what the best solution to your life situation is for you, as an individual.
I will not share any of what you talk about with anyone unless, of course, there is a risk of harm to you or someone else.
